Toys
It's important that bunnies have toys to chew
on, rub on, fling, and stretch to reach, Toys
enhance their lives by providing exercise,
mental stimulation and fun. Chewing helps to
strengthen their teeth. Painted wooden items
need to be colored only with edible coloring,
which if FDA approved. Many on-line sites have
great wooden toys.
The bunnies like a variety of colored wood items
with pretty colored pieces of wood and bells.
These toys can be hung from the top of the bunny
cage and provide stretching and rubbing
interest. Most bunnies love to sit up and reach
for toys and rub their chins on the toys. They
also love to ring the bells on hanging toys.
Avoid soft plastic or rubber toys as the bunnies
will eat them. Acrylic or light weight metal
toys are hard and therefore can't be eaten.
Bunnies also love to go into small places amd
tunnels to hide. They have fun jumping, bouncing
and flinging light weight willow baskets and
balls. See
Binkybunny
-------Jumbo Willow Ball.
Another good place to look for toys which are
very inexpensive is a second hand store, like
Goodwill. I buy a lot of stuffed animals without
any dangerous parts for my bunnies. Then I hang
them at the top of the cage with a couple of
large, colorful chenille pipe cleaners from a
craft store. I can add colorful bells too.
Voila, an interesting fun toy, for minimal
investment.
Rabbits can be active, curious and happy all
their lives. They will live longer if their
curiousity and intellect are stimulated with
different textures, colors and toys they can
move about.
Not only should house rabbit pets have the
pleasure of a fun and interesting environment,
but also breeding and show rabbits can have
great homes with play toys. Each of my rabbits
(75 in all) have several hanging and “flingable”
toys.
